Acquisition strengthens Blue Cap portfolio company con-pearl’s recycling business

_Takeover of Recyplast sets tone for con-pearl GmbH’s strategic orientation

Munich, 8 April 2021 con-pearl GmbH, a portfolio company of Blue Cap AG, has acquired all of the material assets and employees of Recyplast GmbH for a low single-digit-million figure. The company was acquired from the insolvency estate of Fischer GmbH and will help to strengthen con-pearl’s strategically important recycling business. The transaction remains subject to the approval of the creditors’ meeting and the conclusion of a long-term lease agreement. Recyplast, based in Hillscheid, Rhineland-Palatinate, specialises in the production of regranulate from various plastics.

con-pearl GmbH, a producer of thermally laminated lightweight boards, already has one recycling plant in Leinefelde, Thuringia. At this plant, plastic granulate is obtained from industrial polypropylene waste. The granulate is either processed to meet customer-specific requirements and sold directly as a high-quality recyclate or, for the most part, is used in internal production at the main plant. Following the successful completion of the reorganisation measures and the positive development in 2020, con-pearl intends to expand its plastics recycling business further. To safeguard the existing business and further growth, it is essential to have a high-quality supply of recyclates in sufficient quantities.

The acquisition of Recyplast and further investments will allow con-pearl to establish a second, independent recycling site for polypropylene and polyethylene regranulate in the coming years. This will see the company expand its raw material base and make it more attractive for recyclate customers and industrial companies that want to dispose of their waste.

Tobias Hoffmann-Becking, CIO of Blue Cap AG: “The expansion of the company’s recycling capacity with Recyplast is a strategically important addition for con-pearl – on the one hand to support the growth of con-pearl products and on the other hand to expand business with external customers. Stepping up its recycling activities is part of Blue Cap’s sustainability strategy and is an opportunity for the entire Group to partially hedge raw material prices in the plastics sector.”
